A note on the temperature rise in a lubricating fluid

A potentially useful analytical solution for the prediction of the temperature rise in a lubricating film is presented. The method readily yields a mean temperature for evaluating the effective viscosity without the need for iterations. Application of these simple but realistic analytical solutions for preliminary design consideration of thrust and journal bearings are presented with verification.
