In-situ synthesis of Cu2S nanoparticles to consolidate the tribological performance of PAI-PTFE bonded solid lubricating coatings

Cuprous sulfide (Cu2S) nanoparticles as functional fillers were in-situ synthesized in Polyamideimide (PAI) Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) bonded solid lubricating coatings. The results indicated that Cu2S nanoparticles were homogeneously dispersed in lubricating coatings with small grain size. Agglomeration problem of nanofunctional fillers in lubricating coatings during its fabrication process was well resolved. When incorporation mass percent of Cu2S nanoparticles reached 5.0%, the micro-hardness of lubricating coatings elevated about 109%, wear rate decreased about 40% and wear life ascended about 3 times, respectively. Subsequently, the adaptability research of lubricating coatings under various applied loads and sliding frequencies indicated that the lubricating coatings exhibited the most excellent anti-wear ability under applied load of 10 N and sliding frequency of 7 Hz. Load-carrying capacity of the lubricating coatings was substantially promoted by appropriate incorporation of in-situ synthesized Cu2S nanoparticles. In pace with enlarged sliding frequencies, wear degree of lubricating coatings adversely alleviated, but superhigh sliding frequency brought fatal abrasion to lubricating coatings.
